Dinosaurs!

As part of our dinosaur topic we have been digging for fossils – making sure we wear our safety goggles and use appropriate tools. We have used paper mache and balloons to make some dinosaur eggs, and we have been busy preparing dinosuar snacks for the herbivore dinosuars in our outdoor kitchen.

Autumn walk with our special friends!

Today we went on a lovely autumn walk with our special friends. We saw lots of signs of autumn –  such as leaves which have fallen from trees, leaves which have changed colour and conkers and fir cones. We collected some of these autumn treasures and we are going to use these as part of our literacy lesson later on this week.

Whilst out in the Delph we looked at different textures on the trees and had a go at describing them. We used wax crayons and paper to make some tree rubbings. We found lots of ‘bumpy’ and ‘lumpy’ tree bark.

After our autumn walk, we all came back to the classroom to share some hot chocolate and biscuits to warm us up!

Pumpkin Soup

As part of our autumn topic we have read the lovely story ‘Pumpkin Soup’. We then had a go at making our own pumpkin soup!

We worked in small groups to scoop out the seeds, place them into the different pans and bowls, and then pretend to cook them. We had a go at describing the texture of the seeds and then worked together to count out different amounts into the different size pans and bowls.

We have had a go at designing our own pumpkins, thinking about the size and colour. We have also had a go at writing out recipes for pumpkin soup.

Ourselves!

As part of our current topic ‘Ourselves’ we have been looking at birthdays! We have thought about how we celebatre birthdays in this country and we have had a sneak peak at how birthdays are celebrated in Germany.

We have been busy making play dough birthday cakes – and counting out different amounts of candles for them. We have been writing out birthday party invitations – practising our letter formation, and also writing out mini birthday cards.

We have been busy filling in our ‘days of the week chart’ where we have been learning the different days, months and dates! I wonder if we know anyone who has a birthday in October? …
