Under The Sea!

This half term we are learning all about life under the sea. We have been exploring the different creatures which live under the sea and have found out how they protect themselves from different predators.

We have made our own rainbow fish, octopus, sharks and crabs and have set up our very own ‘sea’ and ‘rock pool’ role play areas where we have conducted some different investigations. We have been looking to see which items in our ‘sea’ and ‘rock pool’ areas are magnetic and also which float and sink.

We are now starting to look at holidays by the sea and have made our own ‘ice cream play dough’. We look forward to learning all about holidays past and present and also taking a look at the airport and planes.

Mini Beasts and Spring Time!

This term we have been learning all about Spring time and the changes we will see during this season. Most recently we have started our ‘Mini Beast’ topic. Here we have learnt all about the life cycle of a Butterfly, a Frog and a Ladybird. We have looked at Spiders and worms, flowers and how they grow, and we have learnt a few funny rhymes along the way!

On our ‘Bug Hunt’ in Copse Corner, we found all sorts of insects! We cannot wait until our pet caterpillars arrive in class after Easter! We will be able to watch them turn into beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!

We will soon be looking at animals on the farm and learning all about where our food comes from, thinking about different types of meat, eggs and dairy products.

Other Cultures and Celebrations!

Last term we read some lovely stories which took us all over the world! We read ‘Granny Went To Market’ and made our very own magic carpet to fly us to some of the lovely countries which Granny visited. We flew to China and learnt all about Chinese New Year (see our older blog page called class 1). We Flew to Russia to buy some Russian Dolls. We used these to do some fantastic size ordering tasks in maths! We flew to India and learnt all about the celebration Diwali. We learnt some fantastic Indian dance moves, made our very own Rangoli patterns and had a go at painting some beautiful Mehdi patterns on hand prints. We used our capacity knowledge to make some salt dough, which we later used to make Diva Lamps with!

We read ‘Mama Panya’s Pancakes’ and ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We used our globe to have a look at where the different countries are positioned and then had a go at making the flags from the different countries. We also made our own passports. Did you know that you need a passport to board a magical carpet?
